Raptor Fest 2020

Janie Veltkamp - Birds of Prey NW and Author of beauty and the beak

Janie Veltcamp is a raptor biologist and master falconer who in 1993 founded the nonprofit raptor education and rehabilitation center Birds of Prey Northwest in northern Idaho.

Birds of Prey Northwest’s mission is to educate the public about birds of prey, through live raptor presentations and other outreach activities, and to provide medical treatment to injured, sick, and orphaned wild raptors with the goal of returning them to the wild.

Through Janie’s leadership, a team of engineers, scientists, and biologists made a 3D-printed prosthetic beak for Beauty the Bald Eagle whose beak had been shot off. Based on this event, she co-authored the children’s book Beauty and the Beak: How Science, Technology, and a 3D-Printed Beak Rescued a Bald Eagle

Friday, June 5th at 10:30am - Beauty and the Beak - Watch a YouTube reading of Beauty and The Beak by the author Jane Veltkamp, followed by a presentation about eagles with special guest - Beauty the Bald Eagle.
