Emily BOves - FIeld researcher and teacher at International Studies magnet school

Emily Boves has been an outdoor educator and bird researcher for almost twenty years and has worked in several states with a variety of species. She is currently a field researcher for Arkansas State University and a teacher at International Studies Magnet School in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Monday, June 1st at 10:30am - Exploring Beak Adaptations - We will investigate bird adaptations using tools that simulate different types of bird beaks, and learn how adaptations connect birds to certain habitats and behaviors. We will also look at specimens from the Arkansas State University Biodiversity Collection in order to see the different types of beaks.

Materials Needed for Activity: Spoon; clothes pin, nutcracker, or pliers; tweezers or chopsticks; straw; long-handled tongs; marbles; birds seed; gummy worms; rice, m&ms, or popcorn; several cups; pie plate or similar dish; deep dish with water; shallow dish with water; pencil and paper
