Fall and the beginning of winter are a crucial period for our habitat restoration program - it’s the time of year where we collect all of our seeds! While our program has been running, we’ve been heading out into the NCA to gather the seeds of some of the most important native species including broom snakeweed, sagebrush, rabbitbrush and winterfat.

What next?

These seeds are then transported to our growing facility where they are planted and cared for, before being transplanted into the NCA. They will provide important forage and habitat for raptor prey species, which will have a fantastic knock-on effect on the rest of the NCA’s food chain. The more prey that’s available, the more raptors can live and breed in the area.

With populations of many of the raptor species in the NCA in decline, this is a crucial part of our conservation work.

Throughout November and December, we’re running four habitat restoration volunteer days, giving you the opportunity to make a huge difference for nature in your local area. If you’ve got a few hours to spare on November 15 or 22 or December 6 or 13, please fill out this form to let us know your availability and we’ll be in touch with all the information you’ll need to get involved.
