Development and Marketing Director


 

Background

The Birds of Prey NCA Partnership (BOPP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Boise, Idaho. BOPP was established in 2015 after in-depth stakeholder input and extensive feedback from both State and District BLM staff. We have garnered amazing support from the community and aim to build on this support as the organization grows. Our mission is to support the management and conservation of the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area through science, education, outreach, and partnerships. We envision a community supported national conservation area that sustains resilient ecological communities, protects cultural resources, and provides diverse, responsible recreation opportunities. 


 Major Tasks 

The Development and Marketing Director will be responsible for the development of all marketing and fundraising strategies to grow the base of philanthropic support and increase public awareness of the Birds of Prey NCA Partnership. The Development and Marketing Director will work alongside the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising activities, including setting the strategic fundraising agenda to achieve and exceed the organization’s revenue goals through the solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation support. The Director will build and manage brand identity and all aspects of marketing communication to raise awareness of the organization and its programs, and implement targeted donor communication to enhance major gifts cultivation.  

  • Meet and otherwise communicate with prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective cultivation

  • Create a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors

  • Oversee grant seeking, including research, proposal writing and reporting requirements 

  • Build planned giving program 

  • Develop and execute fundraising plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors with targeted goals, objectives, methods, quantifiable outcomes and timelines which will achieve budgeted goals 

  • Coordinate fundraising special events 

  • Implement prospect research 

  • Develop and execute with the Board of Directors a comprehensive marketing plan that includes events, media relations, press releases, social networking, annual report, website, newsletter and branding 

  • Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems 

  • Oversee creation of publications to support fundraising activities 

  • Oversee gift recognition programs 

  • Responsible for working closely with Board of Directors to review program services in order to obtain information for reporting, comply with donor expectations and to be aware of programmatic needs for funding 

  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times 

  • Perform other related duties as requested 


Qualifications

  • Must embrace the mission of Birds of Prey NCA Partnership

  • Proven success in areas of individual and corporate giving as well as grant writing and funding

  • Experience with nonprofit marketing and social media

  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills

  • Have knowledge and experience in a wide variety of fundraising activities, particularly major gift cultivation and acquisition

  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate board members and other volunteers

  • Be a self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor cultivation

  • Strong organizational skills and exhibit follow-through on tasks and goals

  • Display a positive attitude, demonstrate self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability

  • Working mastery of computer programs including Adobe, Microsoft Suite

  • A bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum two years experience in professional fundraising

  • Familiarity with the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, national conservation lands, and public lands strongly preferred

 
 

Terms

This position will be based in Boise, Idaho, or a surrounding community. Work will be conducted from a home office. 

The position is employed by Birds of Prey NCA Partnership, a “Friends” organization that supports the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. This position is a grant-based, full time appointment, with funding for one year. This position does not offer a benefits package. However, it is the Birds of Prey NCA Partnership’s goal to make this a permanent position that includes a benefit package. If fundraising goals are met, it is possible that benefits will be established during 2019, and that the position term will be extended. Performance reviews will be help by the Board President on a regular basis, with the first evaluation happening 3 months after the start date. 

 The employee will work approximately 40 hours per week, with a varying schedule, and some travel (rarely overnight) to surround communities is expected. 

This position is open until a suitable candidate is found. However, we hope to begin interviewing qualified candidates during the week of February 18th. 


 Compensation

The annual salary for the Development and Marketing Director is $40,000. This will be the first paid position for the Birds of Prey NCA Partnership. Our goal is to meet fundraising metrics so that a benefits package can be established for this position and the term of employment can be extended beyond one year. 


 Supervision 

The formal supervisor for this position is the President of the Board of Directors. Additional board members will be available to assist with administrative duties and the more complex and/or controversial operational aspects of the job. Frequent meeting shall be held between the supervisor and the employee to review objectives and associated work plans.
